Follow on Google News | Sookie Stackhouse author coming to NWAAuthor Charlaine Harris to speak at benefits for The Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow
By: Carrie Groves The Writers Colony opened in June, 2000, on the original site of the Dairy Hollow House Bed & Breakfast, started in 1979 by writers and innkeepers Crescent Dragonwagon and the late Ned Shank. Today, the Writers Colony has an expanded mission, including not only literacy, but visual, performance and culinary arts, cultural preservation and creative self-expression. 505 Spring Street, adjacent to the Colony's main building, was donated by Martin & Elise Roenigk and is currently being renovated in partnership with Traditional Home magazine, through grants from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and the Arkansas Cultural Heritage Program. This building will house five modern writing suites, a kitchen, outdoor decks, and a large gathering space for writers and the creative community, offering a place where the good old days of "salons" and creative spirits can once again thrive. Harris, in her first Northwest Arkansas appearance, will be in attendance at The Crescent Hotel Conservatory Saturday afternoon from 1-3 p.m. She will visit with attendees; tickets are $50 and include a buffer and cash bar. That evening, Harris and the Writers Colony will host a dinner at the Peel Mansion in Bentonville, beginning at 6:30. Harris will speak in a “Writers Studio” format, with audience participation. Tickets include a full-course dinner, cocktails and beverages. Single tickets are $125 and couples are $200. A table of eight will cost $750. Special dinner seating with Harris is available, at $250 per seat or $450 per couple. Tickets may be reserved by calling The Writers Colony at 479-253-7444. Seating is limited. Businesses are invited to help sponsor this event. All sponsors’ logos will be prominently displayed on promotional and public relations materials, and given tickets to the events; there are several levels of sponsorship available, each with its own extra perks. Donations are tax-deductible and will help underwrite the cost of the events and provide funding for The Writers Colony. More information is available by phone or email: director@writerscolony.org .
