By: Sarah Ebbott Over one year Stephen and Tara have produced 4.410 kW of electricity and paid the utility company a grand total of $41. Additionally, Stephen and Tara received over $2,000 in the sale of their “Solar Renewable Energy Credits” (SRECs). With their energy savings and SREC income, the 16 panel solar electric system will have paid for itself in just over four years. “Most importantly, we will prevent over 5,500 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year. Living in a seaside community, this is important as we will feel the brunt of global warming through future sea-level rise as well as from other climatic changes.” wrote Stephen in a letter to the editor, published in the Swampscott Reporter. Stephen, a professor at Salem State University, wrapped up his letter by saying, “Our solar panels are guaranteed for over 20 years and they add value to the house. 4,410 Kilowatts is just a drop in the bucket, I know, but solar energy is economically viable in Swampscott and is an excellent investment. I would encourage others in town to investigate if your house is suitable for solar panels” Read the entire article here: http://www.wickedlocal.com/ # # # Sunlight Solar Energy is a certified grid-tied solar electric installation contractor committed to providing the highest quality grid-tied solar electric installations for homes and businesses.
