July 21, 2011 - PRLog -- PEX Network: Could you tell us about your role at IBM as VP of Next Generation Business Process Management, and how exactly does the IBM machine view BPM and the big picture for the technology?

P Gilbert: My role is pretty simple. Of course, we've been doing BPM for about the last ten years, but we believe that we're on the cusp of a really fundamental shift in, not only the acceptance of BPM, but also the expansion of what BPM is and can be. We think that this is bigger than ERP, for example. We actually think that as the economy moves more and more worldwide to a service economy that this actually replaces ERP. The technologies underneath BPM are, in essence, the ERP of the service economy. They're built for a fragmented world.

So that's what I'm doing here, and insofar as the machine is embracing it, it's really unbelievable. We are surpassing the market growth, so we're taking market share. And as leaders of BPM our customers and new prospects around the world are really looking to us and embracing our vision for how this new business platform that is required for 21st century global business, is taking shape and can take shape. So they're looking to us to educate them, and it's a lot of fun right now.

I think our traditional customers are looking to us to educate them and help them have more meaningful conversations with their business customers about what the possibilities and what the realities of BPM and end-user computing can be. The machine, so-called, is embracing it fully and we're executing very well right now.

PEX Network: Thanks for setting the scene. What does Next Generation mean to you in the context of BPM as opposed to the current generation of solutions?
