Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s and Body Bar Inc. Collaborate to Help Kid Fitness

Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program and Body Bar Inc. Collaborate to Help Keep Students Fit - Body Bar Inc. to Provide In-Kind Support

PRLog - Jul. 20, 2011 - BOULDER, Colo. -- BOULDER, CO – July 20, 2011 –  Body Bar® Inc. a premier fitness company specializing in products and educational tools for fitness enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, today announced an In-Kind collaboration with Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program, providing educational support and products to schools nationwide.

Nearly one in three children and teens in the United States is obese or overweight. In response to the epidemic, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation – a joint partnership of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation – established its Healthy Schools Program in 2006 to help schools develop and implement policies and practices to promote healthy eating and increase physical activity.

The Healthy Schools Program is committed to providing access to the best available resources to help support schools’ efforts in developing healthier environments. Because there is often not sufficient funding for schools to pay for new resources, the Alliance negotiates reduced rates and passes on these savings to schools as part of the Healthy Schools Program’s member discount program. In fact, 90 percent of all resources in the Healthy Schools Program Resource Database (located at HealthierGeneration.org) are available at no cost and the remainder is offered at a low cost. All resources are vetted by American Heart Association science and medicine advisors for accuracy, the best available scientific information and best practice, so individuals can be confident that any resource they wish to implement in their schools is reputable. One such resource is Body Bar Inc.’s Body Bar FLEX FIT 15 for KIDS.  This program widens the reach of youth fitness programming by creating a workout that can be performed with minimal equipment, in any facility, requiring little storage space, with easy set-up and take-down. The Body Bar FLEX FIT 15 for KIDS workout is a fun, energizing exercise curriculum. It uses safe, effective, integrated movement exercises - involving compound movements, which work more than one muscle group at a time - to deliver specific stretching, strengthening, and core conditioning.

“It is a privilege to be involved with Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program,” commented Craig Williams, president and owner, Body Bar Inc.  “I am confident that our Body Bar FLEX products can help make a difference, providing flexibility, balance, and strength, so today’s students will be fit and active throughout life.”

About the Body Bar FLEX
The award-winning Body Bar FLEX is a flexible composite rod with easy-grip durable rubber casing and end caps. Weighing approximately one pound, the 4-foot Body Bar FLEX can be used for balance and stretching when straight, but offers resistance ranging from 0 to 20 pounds when bent into an arc. It’s ergonomically tailored flexibility allows full joint range of motion and works the entire body in simple or compound movements to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and balance.  According to Sherry Catlin, award-winning trainer, it is “just possibly the single most versatile, user-friendly, piece of exercise equipment you will own.”  (www.bodybar.com/Body-Bar-Store/Body-Bar-Flex) or call 800-500-2030

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program takes a comprehensive approach to helping schools create healthier environments by working with them to improve access to healthier foods; increase physical activity opportunities before, during and after school; enhance nutrition education; and establish school employee wellness programs. Support is tailored so that every school creates its own local approach that matches the specific needs of its community.

Schools participating in the Healthy Schools Program are eligible to earn bronze, silver or gold awards based on their range of healthy eating and physical activity programs and policies. The rigorous program criteria – known as the Healthy Schools Program Best Practice Framework – were developed in consultation with a panel of experts, including representatives from the American Heart Association, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, RWJF and others.

Any school in the United States can enroll in the Healthy Schools Program and receive free assistance and support in creating a healthier environment. Additionally, any individual who cares about helping a school in his or her community become a healthier place may join the Healthy Schools Network for immediate access to tips and tools to support a healthier school. About the Alliance for a Healthier Generation
The American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation joined forces in May of 2005 to create a healthier generation by addressing one of the nation’s leading public health threats – childhood obesity. The goal of the Alliance is to reduce the nationwide prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015, and to empower kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices. The Alliance works to positively affect the places that can make a difference to a child’s health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctor’s offices and communities.
