July 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Advertisers are finding that the cost of advertising on Facebook has increased by 74% with the price of cost per click Facebook adverts doubling between the second quarter of 2010 and the same period in 2011. These price rises come as more and more brands move away from the more traditional marketing methods such as TV and print advertising and focus more on social networking.

Brands are continuing to aim to increase the number of Facebook fans they have and as a result brand advertising campaigns grew by 104% year on year. In order to achieve this it is likely that the major brands will continue to invest in the creation of online marketing jobs to support their online marketing activities.

A report carried out by marketing agency, TBG Digital, who works with 100 of the top 500 advertisers on Facebook, which looks at consumer behaviour and advertising effectiveness, has found that retail brands tend to achieve the highest click through rates, followed by the finance sector.  The CEO of TBG Digital commented that: “I think the numbers in this report back up the anecdotal evidence of my conversations with TBG’s customers: Facebook is the transformational platform which is making advertisers move brand budgets from the traditional areas of TV and Press to Online,”
Google has launched its own social network known as Google+ which allows users to share videos, content and status updates, earlier this month and is currently Facebook’s largest competitor for advertising revenue.

Google+ will allow users to separate their friends based on their relationship or interests know as ‘Circles’ making it easier for users to share information. However, the Managing Director of Google for the UK and Ireland has said that Google+ is not “strictly” a social networking site, more of a service for “sharing”.  This statement could be seen as a means of differentiating Google+ from the other main social networking competitors.

Ashley Pearce, Recruitment Consultant at Brand Recruitment, has commented that: “A number of the clients I work with are specifically looking for candidates with social media marketing experience to fill the online marketing jobs they have available.” Brand Recruitment has found that clients across the East of England are keen to recruit candidates with Facebook and other social media experience.
