July 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Firespray International’s innovative, no-weld Flamebar BW11 grease duct system for commercial kitchens has received approval from New York City’s Office of Technical Certification and Research (OTCR) for use in new construction and renovations throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island.

The Firespray system was evaluated and approved by New York City’s OTCR as a modification to the 2008 Code, and is listed in Bulletin 2010-021. It has also been listed and labeled to ASTM E2336 standards and complies with performance requirements of UL1978 and NFPA 96. “The Flamebar BW11 grease duct system’s approval gives engineers, sheet-metal contractors and owners a fully compliant no-weld option conferring significant safety advantages, as well as cost- and time-saving benefits for commercial kitchen construction in a wide range of facility types,” said Firespray International Vice President Joe Vincenti.

The city’s code mandates two layers of flexible ceramic-fiber insulation for both conventional welded systems and the newly approved Firespray system. Insulation must conform to the ASTM E2336 standard, delivering two-hour/zero clearance performance for all grease ducts.

Unlike the welded #10 gage grease ductwork traditionally used in commercial kitchens in New York City, the Firespray Flamebar BW11 system uses rectangular #20 gage galvanized steel ductwork with bolted flanges and a fire resistant coating applied to the duct’s external surface.  Since the system is designed for on-site assembly, using bolts and specialized gaskets and sealants instead of welding, it is faster and easier to install at the job-site, according to Sheldon Teicher, president of Atlantic Firespray, which is Firespray’s licensee in the New York City metropolitan area.

“The Flamebar BW11 grease duct system has proven to be a very compelling and competitive option for specifying engineers worldwide, delivering performance and savings for restaurants, hotels, universities, hospitals, casinos and other commercial facilities,” said Joe Vincenti. “That’s very attractive to owners in these difficult economic times. Compared with traditional grease duct systems, the Flamebar BW11 system’s rapid installation and lighter weight results in savings on total costs, with far less fire risk and job-site disruption -- especially for buildings that remain in operation during a renovation.”

Firespray’s grease duct system is in use in commercial kitchens throughout the United States, in restaurants and hotels, hospitals, universities, museums and mixed-use complexes.  Firespray International is recognized worldwide in the design and manufacture of specialized fire ducting systems in a diverse range of industrial sectors, including commercial kitchen extract duct work and fire-rated ductwork for smoke exhaust, pressurization, lab exhaust, car park exhaust, and risers in multi story buildings.
