July 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Along with the Cannes Film Festival, the  Sitges Film Festival is one of the best film festivals in Europe. It's a good place for those who love fantasy films and those who make it, as it is a great framework for meeting, exhibition, presentation and projection.

The Sitges International Fantasy Film Festival was born in 1968 as the the 1st International Week of Fantastic and Horror Cinema. It has become a must for film buffs and all those who want to see the latest trends and new technologies in the cinema and audiovisual production.[/p]

This year, the Sitges Film Festival 2011 starts on 6th October with the Catalan film Eva and will last until the 16th October.
The focus of the festival will get around the tenth anniversary of the film A.I. Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg, which tells the story of a child robot who lives in a world where humans and robots with feelings live together. Unfortunately, David, the robot, gets separated from his family and seeked for the police to destroy him. In the film there is also an allegory to the stories of Marco, the Anime cartoon series called 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, as David's wish was to meet her mother again; and to Pinocchio, as David looks for the Blue Fairy to make his wish come true.[/br]
The director of the festival Angel Hall remembers the great success of A.I. Artificial Intelligence. This is why, the two posters of the festival show the living image of two robots created in Japan by Professor Hiroshi, thus remembering the boundaries between reality and fiction which is one of the main themes of Steven Spielberg's film.[/p]

The film Eva is the debut of the director Kike Maillo. It will open the great event in Sitges which takes places between 6 and 16 October this year 2011. The plot of the film Eva is set in the future and, therefore, related  to the theme of this festival. The film is starred by Marta Etura and Daniel Brul.[/p]

Angel Sala recalls the great time that the fantasy genre is living now and which can be found in the Cannes Film Festival. Catalonia has an extensive, quality production which can be checked by the film opening Eva, as well as in other films such as “Mientras duermes” (while you're sleeping) by Jaume Balagueró James and “La mujer del Eternauta” by Adán Aliaga. Apart from Catalan productions, there will be fantasy films from other parts of the world as well as shortfilms. What is more, there will be other kind of interesting and entertaining events in Sitges, such as contests and workshops.[/p]

On 14th October, hundreds of zombies will be in the streets of Sitges. It is one of the best moments of the fantasy festival called the Zombie Walk. Coinciding with this event, the film “Juan de los muertos” (John of the Dead) which shows an ironic view of the political reality in Cuba political reality will be on the screen of the festival.[/p]
