July 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Anne Kreamer and J. Walter Thompson fielded the first of two groundbreaking national polls targeting men and women between the ages of 18 and 64 and emotions in the workplace.  They found that crying on the job has no impact on success—at all levels—and that 88% of all workers believe being sensitive to the emotions of others at work is an asset and a positive trait.  Considering they also found ¾ of all Americans are frustrated at work, Anne Kreamer’s new book promises to be a boon to our “new Workplace,” revealing an Emotion Management Toolkit so working Americans can cope more easily with emotionally challenging situations in the workplace.

Nobody has to be told that there is a lot of crying, bullying and yelling in the workplace.  There’s also lots of friendship and laughter accompanying creative collaboration, too.  So why do we, as a society, treat emotions in the workplace as shameful?  And how is it, in our culture that strives for gender equality, we apply different rules about emotion in the workplace to men and women?  Kreamer’s study shows that suppressing emotion at work can also have a negative impact on the bottom line of businesses. These are some of the questions to be investigated during Anne Kreamer’s live appearance August 18, when her new book, IT’S ALWAYS PERSONAL: Emotion in the New Workplace is explored.

Anne Kreamer is the author of Going Gray: What I Learned about Beauty, Sex, Work, Motherhood, Authenticity and Everything Else that Really Matters, a former executive vice president and worldwide creative director of Nickelodeon, part of the founding team of SPY magazine, and a onetime columnist for both Fast Company and Martha Stewart Living. Her work has appeared in Time, Real Simple, Travel & Leisure, and More. She graduated from Harvard College and lives in Brooklyn with her husband, the writer Kurt Andersen.
