July 18, 2011 - PRLog -- As the only natural birthing facility west of Sydney and just one of just a handful Australia-wide, Murundhu dharaa is leading the charge in providing choices in birth options for the women of the Orange region.

‘Murundhu dharaa’ (Wiradjuri for ‘I live, I breath house’) is a unique health model, led by midwives providing on-going care for mothers and their children from pre-birth up to 14 years.  The centre has been running since 2009, delivering over 250 babies either at home or at the Orange Health Service.  The purpose fitted-out birthing centre was launched in 2011.

As well as caring for family health, Murundhu dharaa offers one of the most tailored and individualised birthing experiences in regional NSW.   The team of midwives offers one-on-one antenatal education for birth preparation which can start as soon as pregnancy is confirmed - no waiting.

At Murundhu dharaa, the approach is that birthing is a natural process, requiring minimal intervention and the relationship midwives build with clients during the pregnancy is the strength the women can draw upon to birth safely and naturally.  Pain relief is focused on relaxation techniques, the use of water (private shower and bathing facilities in each room), the use of a TENS machine, moving around during labour and using a birth ball, birthing stool & birth partner for support.

The birthing suites are large with private facilities, each with a queen sized bed, lounge, comfy chair and table setting.  The ensuites have showers - both fixed and hand held and a large spa-sized bath for soaking or water birthing.  Family can be accommodated and kitchen facilities are provided for the duration of stay.

Each room has an area and specialised high tech equipment for assessing and supporting babies post birth.

Murundhu dharaa birthing centre is available to all women in our region, however to use the centre your situation & pregnancy must be evaluated to make sure your birth will be suitable for our facilities (usually low risk, straight forward births).  The home-like experience of birthing at Murundhu dharaa come with the reassurance that transfer to Orange Health Service can happen if needed.

At Murundhu dharaa, all services are bulk billed, transport to our service is provided or we do home visits.
