Beginning treatment at this time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment. Adult Treatment Braces aren't just for kids anymore. Tooth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy. We offer a variety of treatments that are designed for different age groups - including adults. A new smile can begin today. Retention When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 18 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you've put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth. Orthognathic Surgery Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth. Often, these abnormalities cause difficulty associated with chewing, talking, sleeping and other routine activities. Orthognathic surgery corrects these problems and, in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, will improve the overall appearance of the facial profile. •TYPES OF BRACES Metal Metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today's metal braces are similar, more comfortable and more attractive. Clear Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear)material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawback to ceramic brackets is that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits. Speed System The Speed Appliance is a self-ligating device made from nickel titanium. This makes it easier to operate the opening and closing apertures, while offering you strong, reliable materials to make your treatment progress with efficiency and, as its name suggests, speed. In addition, because there are no ties to get in the way, patients have found it easier to keep clean, which results in better overall hygiene during the time of treatment. The self-ligation also cuts down on patient discomfort and gets rid of the friction caused by other appliances. In addition, because it is small, it is less noticeable, which helps patients feel better about themselves as they move through the treatment process. Invisalign The Invisalign is a system of clear overlay templates called aligners that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients and some teenagers with certain orthodontic bite problems. iBraces iBraces are placed behind your teeth so no one will know that you are wearing braces unless you tell them. They offer exceptional customer service, they are quite knowledgeable about all of the orthodontic options, and patient. I've heard horror stories about Invisalign (i.e. the braces aren't effective, too expensive, etc.) Dr. Wiley's estimate for how long I will need to wear my Invisalign braces were accurate to the day! I feel more confident when I smile so the cost for the treatment was well spent. Thanks for my beautiful smile! " "I can't speak highly enough about Dr. Wiley and her wonderful staff! She is a wonderful orthodontist and such a nice lady. She made me feel so comfortable, as she is extremely thorough, patient and knowledgeable. It was such a wonderful experience....I would absolutely refer anyone needing orthodontics to Dr. Wiley!!! " End
