July 15, 2011 - PRLog -- DETROIT, MICHIGAN-  JULY 15, 2011- Designer Montee Holland, a Detroit native and one of the nation’s top clothing designers of the Tayion Collection has a passion that reaches beyond the glitz and glam of high fashion.  For the past three years through The Tayion Foundation, he has been dedicated to inspiring and motivating inner city young men through basketball, mentorship, education and empowerment.

Each summer, the fully sponsored program through The Tayion Foundation partners with Warwick Workouts in Rapid City, South Dakota to bring a select group of youth ranging from ages of 16 to 22 years old to develop key skills used by both college and NBA elite teams with the potential to be scouted by national colleges and universities.  Some of their workouts include advanced individual offensive skill development, live and dead ball moves, shooting instructions, footwork and shot preparation.

This summer, Holland and other Foundation volunteers  drove two vans loaded with 16 young men from Detroit to Rapid City, South Dakota to work out in the elite Warwick basketball camp. Their weeklong trip also included educational stops at Mt. Rushmore  and the Black Hills.  After the three day camp concluded,  four colleges were interested in offering full or partial scholarships to Holland’s boys.  Among the notable schools included: Gillette College in Wyoming and Mt. Marty College in South Dakota.  Over the past 3 years, Holland and the Tayion Foundation has been responsible for assisting and developing over 20 Detroit native youth  in acquiring full or partial scholarships to colleges and universities across the nation.

“The Tayion Foundation provides more than an opportunity to be seen by college scouts and workouts with other elite players.  They offer the chance grow as leaders in their community, improve self-esteem, have fun and excel as a student athlete,” states Holland.  Educated with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, a Marine Corps veteran and former college basketball player, Holland understands the importance of a 360 degree experience as a student athlete.

In future camps, Holland commits to focusing  on providing his kids with educational opportunities that span from  cultural experiences and excursions to college preparatory testing.
