July 19, 2011 - PRLog -- CHICAGO--the summer heavyweight returns! Taste of Lincoln Avenue, arguably one of Chicago's largest and most popular street fests, is back for its 28th year on Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31. Highlights include nearly 40 music acts on four stages, a kids' carnival and food.

New this year is the Lill Street Craft Fair (on Lill Street between Halsted and Lincoln) showcasing the handmade and DIY wares of 30-plus artists.

In addition to a bevy of local/regional pop, rock and blues acts and popular local cover bands, among this year's music performers are California alt-rockers Toad the Wet Sprocket; Virginia rockers Carbon Leaf; blues great Johnny Winter; Florida alt-rockers Sister Hazel; and Chicago's own indie fave Scott Lucas & the Married Men.

Also performing are lauded local indie popsters, the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/kids' entertainer Tom Chapin (who performs on Sunday).

The ever-popular free kids' carnival will again be held from Noon-6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Sunday on Altgeld between Lincoln and Halsted (a separate entrance is on Halsted). The youngster jamboree features stage entertainment, inflatables, art activities, a petting zoo and  pony rides.

Fest hours are Noon-10:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. on Sunday. It's held on the eponymous stretch of Lincoln Avenue between Fullerton and Wrightwood in Chicago's DePaul/Lincoln Park neighborhood. Suggested gate donation for adults is $10.

Proceeds benefit the Wrightwood Neighbors Association which, in turn, makes grants to charitable and educational organizations serving the local community. For more visit www.chicagoevents.com or  773.868.3010.
