BUDDING Swansea golfers inspired by the Open championship are being offered a great incentive to tee-off this weekend.

Those wanting to practice their swing, in the hope of replicating Tom Watson’s hole-in-one on the sixth, should head for Ashleigh Road Pitch and Putt this Saturday and Sunday.

Swansea Council, which operates the 10 hole course on Swansea’s popular promenade, is offering, for this weekend only, the chance for two people to play for the price of one.

Dave Osborne, leisure operations manager, said “Golf is one of the most widely played sports in the world. It offers great fun and can be played by people of all ages.

“This weekend marks the final stages of the Open championship in Kent. With television coverage of the tournament, including Tom Watson scoring a hole-in-one, many people are likely to be inspired to try the sport.

“By offering the chance for two people to play the sport for the price of one, we hope to capitalise on a growing excitement around the Open this weekend and encourage more people to try the sport.”
