July 14, 2011 - PRLog -- CARIS, the world’s leading marine GIS organization, has launched a new module as part of the release of Bathy DataBASE 3.2. The Engineering Analysis Module caters to the requirements of the dredging industry, port and waterway authorities, as well as other engineering operations.

The Engineering Analysis Module is a replacement for CARIS’ BEAMS software, which was developed over ten years through close collaboration with the Canadian Coast Guard and the Hamburg Port Authority. This expertise has now been leveraged to produce the Engineering Analysis Module, providing users with an even more effective and integrated approach to port and waterway management.

The functionality of the new Module includes the ability to import, create and maintain theoretical models of navigation channels and other seafloor areas. Specialized analysis is also supported through a variety of sophisticated conformance and volume calculations to aid dredging operations. Dangerous shoals can be detected, channel profiles created, and 3-D channel models viewed in conjunction with the latest survey bathymetry.

The Engineering Analysis Module works with the Bathy DataBASE suite or the standalone BASE Editor application. Existing BEAMS users who are up to date on their CARIS subscription can upgrade to the Module for free.

“The launch of the Engineering Analysis Module is definitely the highlight of our Bathy DataBASE 3.2 release,” said Karen Cove, product manager for Bathy DataBASE. “Bathy DataBASE is being adopted by more and more organizations worldwide that work with bathymetry data. These organizations are seeing the benefits of managing and analyzing their bathymetry data in one space. The Engineering Analysis Module means that port and waterway authorities can now also benefit from the advantages of Bathy DataBASE.”
