The Drinks Quarter at The Restaurant Show 2011 will play host to some of the most impressive names in the industry today, bringing together extensive knowledge and expertise.

During the three-day event, a comprehensive programme of seminars and demonstrations will offer something for every establishment – from inspirational business advice and exciting new food-matching ideas to tips on how to create that winning drinks menu.

A taste of the Drinks Quarter:
•   David Hunter and Mike Walpole from The Wine & Spirit Education Trust will be calling your bluff as they take visitors through the systematic tasting approach and then challenge them to prove their skills in a blind taste test
•   Profitability has never been so important, especially in this economic climate, and expert  Peter McCombie MW will share his insights on how getting the service and selling techniques spot on can help get the most out of wine to drive profitability
•   Costanzo Scala, Group Wine Buyer and Head Sommelier, Benares Restaurant and Bar, will talk about successful pairing of Indian cuisine with wine
•   Tim Atkin MW taps in to the ‘New Classics’ and discusses the great wine regions of tomorrow
•   UK’s home-grown talent and Wine Manager of The Savoy, Christopher Cooper, will share his success as he takes visitors through his journey of opening a restaurant to talks about  today’s trends and what consumers are looking for
•   Established writer and broadcaster Sarah Jane Evans MW is teaming up with Sara Jayne Stanes, CEO Academy of Culinary Arts, to discuss the combination of Chocolate and Wine and put the question to visitors “is it heaven or hell?”
•   This year’s Gold medal winners at the International Wine Challenge will be shared by the organisation’s Co-Chairman, Charles Metcalf
•   Ben McFarland and Charlie McVeigh, founders of The Draft House, share the exciting world of craft beer, successful food-matching ideas and tips to entice customers.  Visitors will also be treated to samples of some of their great brews
•   Waverley TBS, independent drinks supplier, will provide expert advice on a selection of wines and regions across Europe.  ‘Life Without Pinot Grigio’ will explore the reasons into why this wine is such a popular choice throughout the UK, offer suggestions for suitable replacements on the menu and advise how customers can be encouraged to be more adventurous with their white wine selections.  ‘Spain – not just Rioja’ – is where visitors will gain some wonderful insights in to the way that the wine and food differs according to each region and will find out how to increase the sales of wine by introducing simple, easy to prepare dishes without having to transform the entire menu.  ‘France – Fighting Back’ – looks at how, with recent good vintages and favourable exchange rates, traditional French favourites are making a comeback
•   Last but certainly not least, Ronan Sayburn MS, Director of Wines and Spirits, Hotel du Vin Group, will talk about how to taste and choose wine like a professional
