July 13, 2011 - PRLog -- HOUSTON – AeraVida, a Texas-based purveyor of artisanal and fair trade jewelry, supports artisans and independent craftsmen from various Asian countries.  The company recently began the process of becoming green business certified by enrolling with the Green Business Bureau (GBB).

“At AeraVida, our philosophy is to adopt cost-saving measures which prevent pollution and minimize our overall impact to the environment,” says AeraVida’s Brian Agbulos.  “We realize that our choices and behaviors in our business - and life - practices can have a ripple effect today and to future generations.”

The company actively promotes green practices within the office, and had already implemented a list of green initiatives prior to joining the GBB.  Among the measures in place at AeraVida are a company-wide energy conservation policy for all computers, hardware, and equipment; a paper reduction and multi-use policy that is supported by the purchasing of copiers and printers with duplexing capabilities; the installation of water flow-rate controls in break and bathrooms; and the monitoring of air conditioning units and use of natural ventilation as much as possible.  In addition, AeraVida purchases paper and office products that are made from recycled materials, uses organic and recycled bags for packing products, and works with overseas vendors to minimize product packaging and shipping.  The company also encourages employee carpools.

Agbulos says AeraVida wanted a way to measure and track its environmental footprint.

“GBB provides us a way to assess our current system and implement stratagem which will improve environmental and economic sustainability for our company,” says Agbulos.

“We are looking forward to educating not just our own staff but also our customers, vendors and the outside community on the importance of making environmentally responsible decisions,” says Agbulos.  “In doing so, we recognize that this economic stewardship is added value to our customers.”
