Dorset Theatre Festival (DTF), founded by Jill Charles and John Nassivera in the 1970s, fills a key role in the Southern Vermont theatre community. DTF is a launching ground for new playwrights, a training ground for new talent, and home to a group of professionals who helped make DTF the fixture it has become in 36 years. Under Artistic Director Dina Janis, DTF's mission is to revitalize and build upon its legacy by introducing regional audiences to contemporary playwrights as well as by offering classic crowd pleasers. DTF is proud to contribute to the community through its Giving Back promotions. In 2011 Vermont National Guard and veterans, police, firefighters, EMS workers, those with special needs, farmers, and student graduates of the Refuse to Use program are offered the opportunity to attend the theater free of charge. DTF fulfills its educational mission through the newly introduced summer theatre camp and by re-energizing the DTF Conservatory and Education Outreach.
