July 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced the launch of GALAXY S II, its flagship Android™-powered smartphone, during its media conference held in the headquarters in Seoul.

The Samsung GALAXY S II succeeds in selling 3 million units in the global sales since its debut less than 45 days ago.  The GALAXY S II is the second generation of Samsung’s best-selling GALAXY S, which sold a record of 14 million since its launch over the past year.

The GALAXY S II features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+ connectivity providing data transfer of up to 21Mbps, a Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display.  At just 8.9mm thick, the new smartphone is a powerful evolution of its predecessor in Speed, Screen and Slim design.

The GALAXY S II will be available in Korea through three mobile service providers. The device is being rolled out gradually around the world through 140 operators in 120 countries.

Sangsuk Roh, President of Samsung Electronics Levant, expressed his confidence the GALAXY S II would continue the success achieved by Samsung in the smartphone market in 2010.

“Samsung has always made its best effort to make products that meets the ever-changing needs of consumers,” said Mr. Roh. “The GALAXY S II is the essence of this commitment, taking Samsung’s leadership in speed, screen and content to a whole new level.”

The GALAXY S II offers the best-in-class user experience with its exceptional speed, offering the fastest wireless connectivity in Korea. Incorporating a 1.2GHz dual-core application processor, the fastest of its kind, the GALAXY S II uses Android™ 2.3 Gingerbread platform, allowing users to enjoy the unrivalled merits of multi-tasking capabilities, super-fast upload & download time for video and photo files, and powerful 3D gaming performance.

In addition, it offers super-fast communications capabilities, including: HDPA+ connectivity for the first time in Korea, which provides three times as fast data as the typical 3G network; the next-generation dual-band Wi-Fi access (2.4GHz/5GHz); Wi-Fi Direct capability, which enables the wireless data transactions up to 300Mbps; and Bluetooth 3.0+HS, which transfers data at a rate of up to 24Mbps.

Only 8.9mm thick and weighing 121g, the GALAXY II has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, making improvements in screen size, color gamut and power consumption. The screen is 14 percent larger than that of the GALAXY S, with more sub-pixels to implement crystal-clear viewing experience in more vivid colors. New organic materials allow more realistic quality in photo presentation and video playback without compromising battery lifetime.

Built on Samsung’s next generation TouchWiz UX technology, the GALAXY S II offers an appealing user experience. As part of this, Samsung introduces Live Panel, a customizable home-screen for live web and applications aggregated in a Magazine-like layout; Motion UI, in which the screen lays out in perspective depending on a user’s pull and push; and a dynamic screen effect in shifting between the home-screen and menus.

For users in Korea, the GALAXY S II offers easy access to a variety of content services through Samsung Apps. Also, with Social Hub and Readers Hub, users can easily manage their social networking services like Facebook and me2day, and their collection of magazines, books and newspapers on one screen. In addition, the enterprise mobility solutions will be available to support the very capabilities that enterprise users may need, such as video conferencing, security and virtual workspace.

The GALAXY S II also boasts cutting-edge technology, such as the NFC connection (SKT and KT), an 8 mega-pixel camera and camcorder with 1080p full HD recording and playback, a gyroscopic sensor enabling precise gaming experience, a 1650mAh high capacity battery and the DMB capability (only available in Korea).
