Okezie Mba & Adeola Ogunmola
Ms. Ogunmola and Mr. Mba arrived at Sunrise Aviation in Ormond Beach, Florida on January 15th this year. They immediately began training toward the Private Pilot License. Each of the students scored 90% or higher on all of the required FAA Knowledge Tests. Ms. Ogunmola actually scored a 99% on her FAA Commercial Pilot Knowledge Test only answering one question wrong on a 100 question test.
Both Ogunmola and Mba passed all of their FAA Flight Tests on the first attempt. Mba actually finished the entire Professional Pilot Course first, completing his Commercial Pilot License on July 1st. Ogunmola completed her Commercial Pilot License on July 6th. The Professional Pilot Course at Sunrise Aviation is designed to be completed in six months and both new pilots finished ahead of this schedule.
Both students arrived at Sunrise Aviation after completing initial aviation studies at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Kaduna, Nigeria. Ogunmola and Mba now return to Nigeria where they will explore several career possibilities in aviation. Initially, they may work as flight instructors. They are also looking at possible careers with the rapidly growing airlines in Nigeria, particularly Arik Air or Air Nigeria (formerly Virgin Nigeria). Both are looking forward to returning home and enjoying Nigerian food once again.
Sunrise Aviation has recently seen an increase in interest in careers as pilots among students in Nigeria. Several more students from Nigeria are scheduled for arrival at Ormond Beach to begin their flight training at Sunrise Aviation within the next few months.
Boeing released a forecast in June that pegged the demand for new pilots worldwide over the next two decades at 460,000 airline pilots. Of that total, 14,300 new airline pilots were projected for Africa.
Sunrise Aviation has been in business continuously since 1983 at the Ormond Beach Municipal Airport in Florida. Located just 8 miles north of Daytona Beach International Airport and only an hour away from Orlando, Sunrise Aviation is located in one of the best places in the world for pilot training.
