ESTES PARK, Colo.- YMCA of the Rockies prepares for the addition of three new Colorado yurts to their popular yurt village, on July 15th.  Centrally located on YMCA of the Rockies’ 5,100 acre Snow Mountain Ranch resort property in Granby, Colorado, the yurt village is a family-friendly alternative to traditional tent camping.

Yurts can sleep up to six people inside with space for two additional people on a camping tent pad outside. Each yurt is equipped with one queen and two bunked beds, multiple interior outlets, small microwave, mini-fridge, prep and picnic tables, ceiling fan, exterior fire ring, and charcoal grill. Towels and linens are included as well. A bathhouse located near the yurts, provides handicap accessible hot showers, coin operated washer and dryer, deep well sinks, hair dryers, a phone, and flush toilets. Yurts are available year round, although visitors during winter should prepare for an extreme winter adventure because the yurts do not have stoves or heat.

Officially opened in the summer of 2010, the yurt village will nearly double in size with the new additions. Yurts are perfect for families with smaller children or travelers looking for a less rustic camping experience. The yurt village also provides an additional pet-friendly accommodation option for YMCA of the Rockies’ guests.

YMCA of the Rockies operates two, Colorado resort-style properties on either end of Rocky Mountain National Park’s Trail Ridge Road. Together the Estes Park Center and Snow Mountain Ranch total over 6,000 acres. In addition to yurts, there are hotel-style lodges, 2-3 bedroom cabins, 3-5 bedroom vacation homes, and family-reunion style cabins available. YMCA of the Rockies’ guests enjoy access to numerous activities and programs such as archery, canoeing, Nordic skiing, outdoor movies and concerts, disc and mini golf, outdoor education classes, and arts and crafts.
