John, a keen and experienced runner, had completed the Great South Run in 2009 and mentioned to a Russian friend Ksenia that he would like to run a marathon. She drew his attention to the Siberian International Marathon which is held annually in her home town of Omsk. Despite being Russia’s biggest marathon, the Siberian International Marathon has very few foreign competitors, in fact at the moment John and Stuart are the events only English competitors making the trip to Siberia all the more unique. The marathon also coincides with Omsk’s founding day celebrations all of which should make for a memorable day.
John commented, “It is all very exciting, Stuart and I have been training hard and hope to give a good account of ourselves”.
