A Young Woman On Her Way To Political Success

July 7, 2011 - PRLog -- We are proud to announce that Beatrice Baker was selected to participate in Running Start’s National Young Women’s  Political Leadership Program being held in Washington, DC this July. While the challenges young women face in pursuit of political office are abundant, with the help of Running Start, this young woman will walk an easier path towards her political aspirations. Her leadership in the community and ambition to succeed set her apart from the thousands who applied.

Running Start, a non-profit based in Washington, DC, encourages young women to run for office early, so that they can establish the tenure necessary to rise to political leadership positions. The 2011 Young Women’s Political Leadership Program is designed to promote Running Start’s mission to give young women in high school the encouragement, support, knowledge and inspiration they need to be leaders in their schools and communities today, and be leaders on the national stage at a young age.

The Young Women’s Political Leadership Program began in 2007 with 25 participants. In 2009, competition for one of the 50 spots in the class was fierce. There were 30,000 applications from inspired young women all over the country.

The 2011 class brings with them an enormous amount of talent. They are leading their communities by mentoring the youth in their schools, promoting diversity, volunteering, and leading people of all ages to improve society. Whether it is a young girl from metropolitan New York, rural Wyoming, or right here in Sandy Springs, GA each girl is making a difference.

“We are thrilled to have such a diverse group of girls this year who are talented and passionate about running for political office,” said Susannah Shakow, President and co-Founder of Running Start.
The program focuses on the important issues facing women today and gives the participants the tools to run for office. Participants will be instructed on a host of topics such as public speaking, networking, media training, and campaign basics. By participating in this unique experience, Beatrice Baker , along with the 49 other participants will leave this program with confidence in her ability to lead, bring more change to her community, and effectively advocate for her beliefs.
