Follow on Google News | Operation: Employment Aims To Help Ex-servicemen And Women5-Week Series In North Jersey Newspaper Matches Military Skill Sets With Current Job Opportunities
The series is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor - Employment and Training Administration and sponsorship from Bergen Community College - Employment Pathways Initiative and New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and speaks not only to ex-military job seekers, but employers as well. Each week will focus on a specific skill set – such as medical specialists, communication and Signal personnel, and military police – and discuss how the core values learned can make veterans valuable to employers. Scenarios are given as to how skills can be applied to civilian jobs; for example, military medical specialists work efficiently under pressure and understand accountability. They would thrive in the civilian workforce as nursing aids, orderlies, emergency medical technicians (EMT), ambulance drivers or radiation therapists. In addition to the in-paper series, a career conference will be held on Monday, July 18, from 10am-2pm at Bergen Community College in the Technology Building at 400 Paramus Road, Paramus. “Veterans Re-entering the Workforce” will introduce ex-servicemen and women to employers and job coaches, offering a personal approach to what might be an intimidating experience for those integrating back into civilian life. # # # About The Record and North Jersey Media Group The Record is the premier, award-winning daily newspaper for northern New Jersey and the center of the extensive local news-gathering operations of North Jersey Media Group.
