Poetry & Creativity: A Poetry Event at Pittsboro's Joyful Jewel Friday September 23

Aug. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Raleigh, NC - A poetry reading with ten poets from around the Triangle will take place at the Joyful Jewel in Pittsboro on Friday September 23, starting at 6:45 p.m.

The Joyful Jewel's mission is to bring artist and patrons together. Their store is filled with all kinds of work from almost 100 local artisans. http://joyfuljewel.com

The poets are from some of the following towns: Wake Forest, North Raleigh, Raleigh, Apex, Fuquay Varina, Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Pittsboro.

The five women poets are: Marcy Corprew, Megan Cutter, Tara Lynne Groth,  Alison Hill and Amiel Landor. The five male poets are: Drew Becker, Al Capehart, Robert Cathcart, Ralph Earle and Ricky Garni. Anora McGaha will be hosting.

Marcy Corprew is a poet, spoken word performer and actress who has just completed her first collection of poetry and stories, LifeTales: An Adventure in Storytelling. She also performs Miz Hazel Tells All, a one woman show.

Megan Cutter is a poet, writer and photographer. Through Cutter’s Edge Consulting, she offers coaching, tutoring and workshops. Megan and her husband Barton are national speakers on disability and relationships.

Tara Lynne Groth is a freelance writer residing in Raleigh. She organizes the Triangle Writers Group. Tara Lynne's poetry is almost always threaded with the themes of escape, missed connections, secrets and Paris.

Alison Hill is a writer and poet, as well as an experienced journalist and producer, originally from Wales. She is completing Media Ready, Media Savvy, a workbook to help prepare authors for media engagements.

Amiel Landor enjoys capturing the spirit of the human experience and putting it into words; after resisting poetry for years, she finally surrendered! She is a trained Clairvoyant at the Pittsboro Center for Natural Medicine.

Drew Becker is a writer and a poet and the owner of Convey Media Group  offering branding and video services. He writes Morning Meditations each morning and hosts a monthly Poets Open Mic Experience (POME) at Electric Beanz coffee shop in Raleigh.

Al Capehart is new to poetry and recently won an award for one of his poems written during a workshop at the Joyful Jewel. Al is also a performer, he is one of the Triangle's Santa Clauses.

Robert Cathcart is a self-proclaimed philosopher and poet who is now writing  a book of philosophy, mostly through poetry. He has been active in local poetry groups for the past two years. His work focuses on life and death with some humor.

Ralph Earle lives in the woods outside Chapel Hill with a dog, cat and varions tropical fish. He works for a software company, meditates, listens to jazz and world music, and takes long walks. His poetry has been widely published.

Ricky Garni is a prolific poet and graphic designer based in Carrboro, North Carolina.

The host for the evening, Anora McGaha, is also a poet, and a writer and author. She works as a social media manager and Internet publicist, while also working with writers and authors.

The Joyful Jewel regularly hosts events with poets, musicians, artists and other performers.
