July 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Today at Akrons’ Derby Downs, Headquarters for the All American Soap Box Derby, Vivian and Midge Ramone of Magnetic Bunny Arts, announced the release of Rock The Tradition Volume 1 “Off the Blocks” a Youngwave Music Compilation and fundraiser. Immediately available at iTunes, all proceeds from the sale of the $6.93, 7-track EP are donated directly to the All American Soap Box Derby. True to the spirit of the derby, each song was written and recorded by musicians 18 years-old or younger. Musicians submitted their recordings into a contest where winning tracks appear on the “Off the Blocks,” music compilation.

2011 Rock the Tradition Winner’s include:
Flaccid Logic from Loveland, OH for their song; “Coastin”
Charlie Dietel from Winchester MA, for his track; “Derby Car Song”
Phantom from Myerstown, PA for two songs’ “Burnin’ Wheels” & instrumental track, “Main Street”
NoMoJo from Silver Lake OH for their song; “Run”
Unknown from Littleton, CO with their orignial “Fill Me Up With the Sun”
ShiSho from Kent, OH for their song inspired by the movie 25 Hill; “I Miss You Now, Pop”

“The songs on the Off the Blocks EP, celebrate a diversity of spirit and style and bound with creative energy,” said Magnetic Bunny co-founder, Midge Ramone. “These are artists in various stages of their musical development from beginners to refined rockers -- artists that we hope to be listening to for a long, long time.”

“Rock the Tradition” is the brainchild of 11 year-old Midge and her big-sister Vivian Ramone of youngwave band ShiSho and their youngwave recording label, Magnetic Bunny Arts. The sisters together with the All American Soap Box Derby (AASBD), Corbin Bernsen’s  “25 Hill” came together to sponsor the contest for young musicians whose winning entries will be put onto a music compilation. Entrants wrote and performed their own songs, using as inspiration the general themes of derby races: summer, the love of family or the power of kids.  The contest was open to all solo “youngwave” musicians — individuals under 18 or bands that have at least one member under the age of 18 with the chance for their songs to appear on the “Off the Blocks” EP.

Vivian said she and her sister Midge were researching “25 Hill” last summer while it was filming in Akron, when they were struck by how much the derby’s mission mirrored that of their Magnetic Bunny Arts label. That paired with the financial challenges that the derby is facing made this an exciting partnership, according to Vivian.

“I’m thrilled that the girls were inspired enough by the filming of ’25 Hill’ to come up with their own way of helping the derby, which is truly an American icon worthy of our support,” said Corbin Bernsen from the set of his TV series “Psych” (USA Network). “Their creativity, initiative and passion are just what we hoped to inspire by making ’25 Hill’. This contest is in the true spirit of the film, in which kids are the ones with the real power to save the derby and ‘rock the tradition’.”

“Magnetic Bunny’s central mission has been supporting family togetherness, creativity and empowering kids to set and reach goals – and that’s the mission of the derby,” said Vivian. “Through Magnetic Bunny, we’re supporting the kid-focused tradition of the Soap Box Derby with music created by kids, while introducing the world to awesome new youngwave artists.”

Rock the Tradition’s “Off the Blocks” EP compilation is available immediately from iTunes for $6.93. All proceeds from the sale of “Off the Blocks” EP are donated directly to The All American Soap Box Derby.
