The featured speaker at the meeting will be Adrienne Gardner, who is secretary of the Martin County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) and also serves as volunteer coordinator for the DEC’s voter mobilization campaign.
Gardner will address a variety of issues, including absentee voting, also known as vote-by-mail, and offer insights regarding the legislation passed earlier this year. The new law reduced the period for early voting from two weeks to one week; requires that voters who move between any of the state's counties use provisional ballots to update their information while at a polling location; and imposes a number of additional regulations on organizations that recruit new voters. A lawsuit challenging the law has been filed in U.S. District Court by Project Vote and the ACLU.
