The success is largely thanks to Millgate’s inspired decision to move the business into a different market sector. In 2006/07 the company built 180 homes at an average price of £375,000, whereas in 2010/11 the figures were 50 units at an average price of £1.5m. It’s this type of strategic planning that Millgate prides itself on.
Millgate recently held a special ‘strategy day’ at Trunkwell Mansion House in Reading, where it invited the opinions of its staff on business ideas for the year ahead. This utilisation of a wealth of in-house expertise is another key contributor to the company’s success.
But ultimately it is the Millgate Homes product that speak for itself, with many of the properties receiving awards over recent years including the coveted gold Eros award for ‘The Best New Home of the Year’ at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2011 - the third time the company has scooped this top industry prize.
David Simpson, managing director of Millgate Homes, explains some of the rationale behind its success:
“We’re a local, family run business and the way we build reflects our values. We’re passionate about every development we create, from the start right through to the finish. Every member of staff is committed to achieving complete perfection. That’s why it’s so important to have strategy days, like the one we’ve just held, so everyone has an input.
“We have a very considered approach and take our time to ensure everything is right before we launch a development;
Millgate Homes is currently marketing ten developments across Berkshire and Surrey, with four new schemes due to commence in the next six months. For further information on any of these properties, call 0118 934 3344 or visit www.millgatehomes.co.uk
