July 6, 2011 - PRLog -- In May, Crystal Clear Publications and Author Crystal L. Bass launched “Precious Gems,” a campaign to encourage healthy communication between parents and children, reduce the rate of abuse and molestation of children, and promote high self-esteem and self-worth of young girls.

As a part of the Precious Gems campaign, Crystal Clear Publications initiated the Precious Gems Twitter chat that takes place each Tuesday on Twitter at 8pm EST. Last week’s topic was “The Role of Media in instilling self-worth in young girls, positive images and raising awareness of issues like abuse, child molestation, and bullying.” The chat featured media personalities including Allyson Leake @SheBlogs, Sherrella La Bella @SHERRELLA, April Watts @WHWRocks, Amanda Fowlkes @OPENFLYMAG, Jeannie Jones @jkittyofthecity, Mia Hall @BmoreFab, Matia Johnson @dollhousemag, Adam Butler @mindstreamradio, Shavon Meyers @thebsideshow, Mia Jackson @sidelinepass, and Christie Ohh @christieohh.

The hour-long chat included insight about the media’s impact on the development of our youth and how the media creates role models for children to look up to.

Each of the participants offered good feedback on the topics:

“When it comes to the development of our youth, the media is only second to parental and peer influence.” – @WHWRocks

“Cultural influence are fading and the media is portraying entertainers as the new role models for our children.” – @OPENFLYMAG

“As media, it is our responsibility to cover more topics that enlighten our youth in a positive way.” – @christieohh

“Everything on TV matters, what our kids watch is extremely important.” - @BmoreFab

“Parents must be vigilant and closely monitor the images their children see in the media.” - @sidelinepass

“Please keep in mind that some who have children aren’t prepared to be parents and may never be….another topic.” - @jkittyofthecity

Next week’s Precious Gems chat will feature authors discussing how they used their books to raise awareness on certain issues like child abuse, self-esteem in young children, and dysfunctional family environments.

Anyone can join the Precious Gems Twitter discussion each Tuesday from 8 to 9 p.m. by using the #PreciousGems hash tag on Twitter or by following @CrystalClearPub or @ThinkBrownINK on Twitter. For more information on the Precious Gems Campaign, please contact raevyn@thinkbrownink.com.
