Many buyers in today's market are smarter and they are leaving behind the leaky home that comes with a gas guzzling air conditioner in search of the home that looks and performs better.

July 5, 2011 - PRLog -- More and more of today’s home buyers, those in the market to build their dream home or even second home, want the trendy styles and upgrades, but turn their cheek when they see the price attached to a geothermal heating and cooling system, solar panels, or even the right insulation for their home's added value and high performance potential.

It is seen daily, those customers wanting a geothermal heating and cooling system or other high energy efficient service, yet turn away due to the sticker shock of the "hefty price tag" that comes with choosing such a service or energy savers system for their home. Even when designing a new house plan, the bonus of having solar panels, solar water heaters, geothermal systems, and even spray foam insulation  usually gets "value engineered" right out of the plan before the contractors even get contacted for a bid. However, there is a cloud with a silver lining for geothermal contractors, as we now see a positive change in demand between consumers and the choice of owning a geothermal heating and cooling system or using other renewable energy services.

Georgia's geothermal dealers and installers, such as EcoMech LLC.'s CEO Tim Uzar, out of Atlanta, Georgia, has been chosen by home owners more often to install a geothermal heating and cooling system when building a home or changing out the old bare bones airconditioner that they have been living with their entire lives. One of the reasons for the upward trend in homeowners opting in for geothermal or other home energy savers is in their awareness of lower utility bills from their friends that may own a geothermal system.

There are a few consumers that still have "sticker shock" when getting a bid on such a system, but when putting the cost of a geothermal system into perspective it just makes sense. Let's take a look at these examples. Uzar states-"A fully functional basic kitchen roughly costs $10,000, including cabinets, countertops, fixtures and appliances. Most contractors bid on homes which have high costly kitchens, some even eight to fifteen times more than mentioned and most customers don't care about the upgraded ROI(return on investment). Another good example is in the purchase choice of cars. Consumers can purchase a nice new economy car for $9,000 that will get them from point A to point B. However, most will opt to drive luxury cars that cost 4 to 6 times more because the economy car doesn't have the luxury they want. The payback for added spending on both of these over a high performance energy saver system, is rarely or even never seen. We as contractors, see this in our clients when they are choosing an air conditioning system in building their new home. Most clients will build a two-hundred thousand dollar home to over a six million dollar home, they'll have a high cost sixty thousand dollar kitchen with a luxury car in the drive way, yet choose the bare bones or cheapest air conditioning system possible. Thus, loosing out on the return on investment and added value that a geothermal system brings to a home."

EcoMech, LLC., installs energy efficient systems such as Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems, Rainwater Collection Systems, Solar PV Systems, Solar Water Heaters, & Sprayfoam Insulation for Atlanta and Florida home buyers. They are the only company in Georgia that can offer their customers complete turn-key and design-build solutions and services from commencement through completion. "We enjoy hearing back from our customers, that they are pleased with their system and we feel honored when recommended to their family and friends."-adds Uzar. EcoMech Geothermal & Mechanical is a full service Commercial & Residential Mechanical Contractor and Geothermal HVAC firm with experience in the HVAC business dating back to 1995 in some of the most challenging Institutional, Healthcare, & Condominium projects in the Southeast.  "We staff only trained, industry licensed and certified technicians, plumbers and installation specialists ready to serve our customers. Our team of field installers have over 18 years of experience and our geo-drillers have more than 21 years of experience. We are recognized in Atlanta as being a trusted contractor and we're very proud of it."-adds Uzar.

Geothermal heat pumps have been recognized by the US Department of Energy as one of the most efficient solutions for residential heating and cooling. Heat pumps remove heat from where it is not desired, to a pump where it can be expelled. In the geothermal variety, a fluid-filled polyethelene pipe, buried in the earth, augments the heat exchange process. During operation in the heating season, fluid in the loop transfers heat from the ground, via the heat pump, to the house. In cooling, the heat from the house loops through the ground, is cooled, and returns to the house ready to cool and start the cycle again.

Besides its high energy performance and operating superiority, why choose an expensive, geothermal heat pump system, especially if you don't plan to stay in the house as long as the payback period? Other than improved comfort and lower bills, the reason may be marketing. "When constructing a new home it would be wise to allow the home to perform as well as it looks.  Don’t skimp on the performance of your home even if it will cost more upfront. Yes, perhaps you may have to cut back on the kitchen design or downsize the home's automation system, but you will be glad you did from the first day you move in. Home buyers who choose conventional HVAC systems to go with their million dollar home or even two-hundred thousand dollar home can be compared to a Ferrari with a 4 cylinder engine, and AM/FM radio.  People that opted for the step up high efficiency conventional HVAC system simply upgraded their Ferrari radio to a tape deck."-adds Uzar.

Geothermal systems cost more up front, but remember the payback on fancy cabinets, tile floors, faucets, landscape lighting, and even fancy retaining walls, will never beat out the return on investment of  solar panels, solar water heating, geothermal or the right kind of insulation solutions for your home. The choice for a high performance home is the right choice.  A solar or geothermal system will not only lower your home's utitly bills, it will also add better performance along with strong market ability due to the increase in your home's value as well as increased comfort.  Homeowners that have made the choice for a better performing home are proud to show off their new geothermal or solar panel system to their friends. This is where the future is heading.
