July 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Buffalo, NY-- We consume energy day and night, at home or at work, in almost everything we do. We are always using energy whether we are aware of it or not according to Brian Paterson, Vice President of New Buffalo Impact, a Tonawanda, NY home energy contractor.  

Paterson said, “For most of us energy consumption can be something we take for granted.  We use energy resources for both necessity and convenience. Energy use is the foundation to our way of life. Virtually everything we do requires consumption of energy.”

He pointed out these areas of common energy use: heating, air conditioning, lighting, water, entertainment systems, televisions, computers, appliances such as washers and dryers, cooking and food storage, security systems, cars, airplanes and any transportation system, manufacturing processes and medical care.

“When you add together all of our routine, day to day energy consumption activities together, the total can build quickly,” stated Paterson.

He mentioned that we use more and more energy as new technologies are developed to enhance our standard of living. According to the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Energy Action at Home resource booklet, ”Between 1990 and 2005, energy consumption worldwide rose 33%. People living in the U.S. consume 21.8% of the energy,yet they represent less than 5% of the worldwide population.”

use and to sustainable living. The goal of the down-loadable booklet is to help people make wise energy choices and reduce  environmental impact without compromising  standard of living.

“Reducing our energy consumption and energy efficiency just makes sense,” Paterson said.

He stated that energy efficiency in our homes not only reduces home energy heating and cooling costs. but also cuts energy consumption and pollution as well.

“The slowing of our consumption of non renewable resources including coal, oil and natural gas, all of which release carbon when burned, is good for the environment as well, “ he concluded.

He added that the New Buffalo Impact website contains common sense tips for reducing home energy consumption. That site is located at: www.newbuffaloimpact.com.  

New Buffalo Impact is a participating Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor and helps homeowners reduce home’s energy consumption, while also improving a home’s energy efficiency.

New Buffalo Impact is a non profit company and energy efficency resource that not only conducts a comprehensive home energy audit, but also performs the necessary home energy improvement work including insulation, air sealing, windows and doors, furnaces, air conditioners and the purchase and installation of energy efficiency appliances.
