Follow on Google News | Songs of Bliss released in eBook formatJust how far will a father go to protect his daughter, especially when his protection is so fundamentally flawed?
By: Clive Gilson Songs of Bliss tells a compelling and personal story about a father and daughter, their lives in rural North Devon, and their inadvertent involvement in the local drugs scene. Billy Whitlow, one time "Don of Doo Wop", has survived his days of drink, drugs and groupies, settling now into a more peaceful life centred on his blossoming seventeen year old daughter, Bex. Revising for her 'A' Levels, Bex visits Billy one Easter but the longed-for simplicity of father-daughter happiness is shattered one night in a local club. Billy's world becomes one of questions; Why is his daughter in a drug induced coma? Who put her in that state? What the hell will his ex-wife say and do? Commenting on Songs of Bliss, Lorna Howarth, founder of The Write Stuff, said: "Well, I’ve finished the book and very much enjoyed it. I think you have written a really good first novel – you have a great turn of phrase: 'The jogging-bottom girls are done up to the nines' - which often made me smile and laugh out loud. Always a good sign." Clive was born in London in 1962 and fell in love with writing at age 11 when he was encouraged to submit a poem to a national UK competition by his English teacher, Bruce Ritchie. Since then Clive has written for magazines and newspapers, been shortlisted in a number of short story and poetry competitions, and worked as an editor and contributor to a number of periodicals and publishing projects. Songs of Bliss is Clive's first novel. End
