Eco Retailer Warns Green Investment Bank Could Do More

Eco superstore warns new UK Government Green Investment Bank should do more to fund innovation by smaller green manufacturers.

July 4, 2011 - PRLog -- The government has published its latest update on plans to develop a new Green Investment Bank (GIB). The update states the GIB is to be founded to allow direct action to boost the green business sector. The UK needs to hit future important climate change targets to comply with legislation. Online eco superstore My Greener Home’s director Edwin Lloyd warns that the GIB is currently not intending to help smaller green manufacturers invest in research and development. Edwin believes this is a grave oversight, since small to medium sized manufacturers consistently develop innovative energy saving products for the UK market:

“I suppose My Greener Home is in a privileged position, in that we don’t need fresh investment from the GIB or any other initiative in the first place. But I am concerned that there is no new support for smaller manufacturers. These are the companies that often invest in cutting edge design to produce the kind of products that dramatically cut home energy use. They’re often doing so long before the larger corporations begin to show an interest. Investing in these firms could have been a real boost to efforts to cut climate change, allowing them to spend more on developing new products. It seems a missed opportunity to get more important, state of the art energy saving products out quickly onto the market”.

The Climate Change Act requires the UK to slash its carbon emissions by 34% in the year 2020 and 50% by 2050, in comparison to 1990 levels. Energy saving devices from smaller companies are one of the ways individual householders, businesses and institutions such as schools can all play their part. As a successful online retailer, Edwin is familiar with the products the public and organisations embrace, and the type of manufacturers that often bring them to the market.

“There are products available that really can make a dramatic difference. For example, you can seriously reduce the amount of heating your home requires by using modern heating controls. You can cut the amount of electricity by identifying where you waste the most, and installing energy efficient appliances and standby power savers, not to mention the obvious energy saving light bulbs. Water saving devices are another area where smaller firms have excelled, producing some competitively priced devices that really do the job. The key with all of these products is consumer convenience, they’re all developed to be easy to install and use. It seems absurd not to support firms that produce such popular and practical innovations”.

As well as providing the latest innovative green products, My Greener Home also provides comprehensive advice and information on how to easily reduce your carbon footprint. The full range of money and energy saving products can be viewed and purchase online at:
