For those Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota fans that may be curious, the main requirement states that a vehicle must have at least 75 percent of its parts made in America. After that, it depends on the final percentage of parts that are made domestically as well as where the vehicles are assembled and how many of those vehicles are sold to U.S. buyers.
The top 10 list of the 2011 model year vehicles that made Cars.com’s list include the following:
(Percentage is of domestic parts)
1. Toyota Camry: 80 percent
2. Honda Accord: 80 percent
3. Chevrolet Malibu: 75 percent
4. Ford Explorer: 85 percent*
5. Honda Odyssey: 75 percent
6. Toyota Sienna: 75 percent
7. Jeep Wrangler: 78 percent for two-door, 79 percent for four-door
8. Chevrolet Traverse: 75 percent
9. Toyota Tundra: 80 percent
10. GMC Acadia: 75 percent
*According to USA Today, though the Ford Explorer has a higher percentage of parts, it doesn’t sell a high rate of models which means it could result in less factory jobs for American workers.
As can be seen in the list, the Camry and Accord have 80 percent of their parts make in America. The Camry is known to be built completely in America at the Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., Toyota plants. Also, since volume is a factor, and the Toyota Camry has been the Best-Selling Car in America for the ninth year in a row, the Camry has high marks for both requirements.

“In today's global economy, there's not an easy way to determine just how American a car is,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor in chief, in a USA Today article. “Most cars built in the U.S., for example, are assembled using at least some parts that come from somewhere else. Additionally, many U.S. automakers assemble vehicles in Canada and Mexico, while foreign automakers have opened plants on U.S. soil. Our index is another resource that car buyers can use to help guide their purchase decision.”
There are three total vehicles available from Toyota that made the list, each with a high amount of American parts. Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota customers who are looking for American vehicles now don’t have to compromise with another automaker, but may enjoy the reliability and dependability of a Toyota vehicle with the knowledge that some are more American than others.
