July 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The UK’s only underground vacuum waste management system, Envac, today laid the first of a series of underground pipes at the new Brent Civic Centre that will ‘plug-in’ to the existing Wembley City vacuum waste infrastructure.

In addition to the 4,200 mixed-use residential units, the Hilton Hotel and the new London Designer Outlet, Envac will handle the waste of 2,000 Brent Council employees and manage an area spanning 40,000 sq m when the building is completed in 2013.

The Envac system is one of the sustainability measures that will make the new Civic Centre the first BREEAM Outstanding-rated public building in the UK.

Julian Gaylor, Envac UK’s Managing Director, explains: “Today represents a key milestone in the on-going regeneration of Wembley City and the relative ease at which waste vacuum technology can be incorporated into neighbouring developments. Just like a puzzle, buildings and even entire boroughs can be connected up to the Envac system, which handles in ten minutes what multiple waste collection vehicles take all day to do. Waste collections can also be made hourly, if required, as opposed to weekly or even fortnightly.”

The UK’s first Envac system made its debut in 2007 when it was designed in as the waste management partner for Wembley City. It currently manages the entire waste output of Quadrant Court and Forum House – Wembley City’s flagship residential developments. Since becoming operational in 2008 the system has increased Brent Council’s recycling rates by over 50 per cent and reduced waste collection vehicle movements by over 90 per cent.

Julian concludes: “Envac has made a hugely positive impact on Wembley City and this, combined with many other innovative approaches that have been incorporated into the area’s regeneration, will mean that Wembley City is regarded as a world-class sustainable development for many years to come.”

Envac is a global leader in the vacuum waste collection industry and invented the automated underground vacuum waste system.

The first vacuum system was installed in 1961 and the systems can now be found all over the world in residential areas, business premises, town centres, industrial kitchens, hospitals and airports.

Envac was launched in the UK in 2007 when its automated waste management system was integrated into the prestigious Wembley City, a development by Quintain Estates and Development PLC. The system will manage the waste of more than 4,000 residential units at Wembley City. Envac has reduced carbon emissions generated by waste collection vehicles by 90 per cent and significantly reduced the amount of traffic on the roads.

Envac has 35 offices in 20 countries in Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia.
