July 1, 2011 - PRLog -- An award-winning American soldier-poet proved a big hit at the Dylan Thomas Centre.

Brian Turner whose poem ‘The Hurt Locker’ provided the title and inspiration for Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar-winning film, read to a sell-out audience last week.

Brian also ran two successful poetry workshops over the weekend, creating group poems with the Centre’s Young Writers’ Squad, and with adults from the city.

Jo Furber, Literature Officer at the Dylan Thomas Centre said “It was quite a coup that a poet of Brian’s calibre visited the Dylan Thomas Centre.

“This was a rare opportunity to see him read in Wales and it was a brilliant experience particularly for our young writers to work with him”.

Turner served seven years in the US Army, which included one year in Iraq, and his poetry deals powerfully with the traumas of war and its aftermath.
