2010-2011 Season of Exploring Critical Issues to Rerun This Summer

Summer television just got more interesting with Telecare’s announced plans to rebroadcast the 2010-2011 season of Exploring Critical Issues (ECI). The six ECI programs will rotate in one-week cycles beginning the week of July 3rd.

PRLog - Jun. 30, 2011 - HUNTINGTON, N.Y. -- Summer television just got more interesting with Telecare’s announced plans to rebroadcast the 2010-2011 season of Exploring Critical Issues (ECI). The six ECI programs will rotate in one-week cycles beginning the week of July 3rd and air as follows: Sundays at 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.; Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.; and Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. Exploring Critical Issues, conceived and hosted by Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott, presents a single topic of interest to New York, Connecticut and New Jersey viewers with in-depth discussion provided by a group of expert panelists.

Each hour-long broadcast can be seen on Cablevision Channel 29 (Long Island, NY) and Cablevision Channel 137 (Bronx, Brooklyn, Yonkers, New Jersey, Connecticut, Hudson Valley, Westchester, NY-DMA), Verizon FiOS TV Channel 296 (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and most markets), and simultaneously online at www.telecaretv.org. All programming is subject to change.

Long Island Economic Development and the Role of the Long Island Association will broadcast the weeks beginning Sunday, July 3; August 14; and September 25.  The program explores matters urgent to the economic recovery and growth of our region from the leadership perspective of the business group, the Long Island Association (LIA).  Panelists include LIA President and CEO Kevin Law; LIA Chief Economist Dr. Pearl M. Kamer and LIA Board members Kirk Kordeleski, President and CEO of Bethpage Federal Credit Union; and Esther Fortunoff, Executive Vice President of Fortunoff.

Adaptive Technologies airs the weeks of July 10 and August 21, and looks at the advances in technology and services making lives fuller, from prosthetics for amputees to the latest in recovery techniques, success stories, opportunities, and organizations that provide advice, counseling, and therapies.  Joining Dr. Scott are panelists: Dr. Ellen Kowalski, Associate Professor of Physical Education and Human Performance Science, Adelphi University; Dr. Robert Otto, Professor and Director of the Human Performance Laboratory, Adelphi University; Todd Schaffhauser, Paralympic Gold Medalist and Co-Founder of the Amputee Walking School; Eric Schatz, American Board Certified Prosthetist and President of International Prosthetics.  

In his introduction to Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome airing the weeks of July 17 and August 28, host Dr. Robert Scott observes, “Statistics point to a rise in the numbers of children diagnosed with autism and Asperger’s syndrome.”  Joining him for the panel discussion on this phenomenon is Dr. Stephen Shore, Assistant Professor of Education at Adelphi University who focuses his research on exploring ways to meet the widely diverse needs of people on the autism spectrum; Brad Gerstman, Esq., legislative attorney and advocate for improved science and autism services; Dr. Judith Cohen, Professor of Education at Adelphi University and author of Succeeding with Autism; and Patricia R. Schissel, LMSW, Executive Director of the Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism Association (AHA), Inc.

The Economy: Who’s Winning, Who’s Losing? airs the weeks of July 24 and September 4, and investigates the real state of the economy and “the haves vs. the have nots.”  Joining Dr. Scott are panelists: Stephen Breitstone, Esq., a partner at the law firm Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone, LLP and an expert in tax and estate planning matters; Carol Markman, CPA and partner at Feldman, Meinberg & Co. LLP, with practice areas in accounting and tax-related services for individuals, small businesses and not-for-profits; and businessman John Costanzo, President of Purolator International, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Purolator Inc., Canada’s largest delivery network.

Food, Nutrition & Health broadcasts the weeks of July 31 and September 11.  Dr. Scott and guests examine America’s food supply, diet, and policies.  Questions raised include: What are the causes of hunger in America? Why does our diet create such serious health risks?  What are the responses offered by policy makers, food pantries, and communities?  What are the special nutritional and health requirements of pregnant women, infants, and children covered by the Child Nutrition Act, the National School Lunch Program, and other institutionalized programs?  Program guests are: Dr. Aloysius Cuyjet, MD, Sr. VP & Chief Health Equity Officer and Chair of the Institute for Health Equity, Nassau University Medical Center; Dr. Diane Dembicki, PhD, LMT, CYT, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Adelphi University; Dr. Sarah Eichberg, Director, Community Research and Editor, Vital Signs, Adelphi University; and Paule T. Pachter, A.C.S.W., L.M.S.W., Executive Director, Long Island Cares, Inc. The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
In The ‘Greening’ of Society to air the weeks of August 7 and September 18, panelists discuss the responsibilities within society’s private and public sectors to sustain the health of our planet.  The program takes a look at the definition of ‘greening’ as a call to action for individuals, organizations, businesses, neighborhoods, and government.  Joining Dr. Scott is Long Island Compost President and CEO Charles Vigliotti, Sustainable Long Island Executive Director Sarah Landsdale, Vision Long Island Executive Director Eric Alexander, and Regional Plan Association Vice President Chris Jones.
