Oct. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- The cost of health insurance is higher than it’s ever been. The average family spends between $500 and $1,800 on monthly insurance premiums with additional fees for annual deductibles and co-pays. For many the price of insurance outweighs the benefits and they choose to go uninsured. Addressing your medical concerns without health insurance is difficult. Many doctor’s offices and hospital turn away uninsured patients, and those who do accept them charge as much as $180 for a routine visit. Charlotte’s Premiere Health (http://www.premiere-health.com) is here to help uninsured patients with its specially designed program, RSVP.

RSVP Helps Self-Pay Patients

Designed to ease the financial burden of healthcare, RSVP allows self-pay patients at Charlotte’s Premiere Health (http://www.premiere-health.com) to see their family doctor for a reasonable price.  RSVP offers discounted prices on office visits, physical exams, vaccinations, and immunizations.  Additionally, labwork is free.
Labwork refers to blood tests that check the levels of various chemicals, hormones, and minerals with in the blood stream. These tests are also useful as indicators of organ health and the effectiveness of certain medications.  Doctors use lab results as a first step in diagnosing a condition and for developing a plan of treatment. Patients with chronic medical disorders such as heart disease and diabetes require regular blood tests as a means of determining if their current plan of treatment is working. Although a common part of a doctor’s visit, bloodwork usually costs uninsured patients an extra charge apart from the visit fee.  This is especially true when your family physician sends you to an outside testing facility. At Charlotte’s Premiere Health (http://www.premiere-health.com) we perform specific in-house labwork for RSVP members.
With the use of the Piccolo Xpress chemistry system, from Abaxis, Dr. Carol Rupe provides RSVP patients with necessary blood labs right in her clinic, Charlotte’s Premiere Health (http://www.premiere-health.com).  RSVP patients get their necessary bloodwork fast, conveniently, and free. Here is a list of the blood tests we perform for our RSVP patients.

Metabolic Panel

A set of 14 blood tests, a metabolic panel is used as an initial broad screening tool. Doctors will have patients get a metabolic panel as part of their yearly physicals and sometimes as part of a new patient visit. Metabolic panels provide physicians with a “status update” of kidney function, liver function, electrolyte and fluid balance. They’re also used to monitor chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Abnormal results may be indicative of a variety of medical conditions. Because this test provides a broad overview of your health it won’t tell your doctor what is specifically wrong, instead, abnormal test results (or groups of test results) are usually followed up with other specific tests to confirm or rule our a suspected diagnosis. Medical conditions that metabolic panels are used to help detect include kidney failure, liver disease, breathing problems, and diabetes related complications.

Lipid Panel

A lipid panel measures a patient’s total cholesterol. It measures high density lipoproteins (good cholesterol), low density lipoproteins (bad cholesterol), and triglycerides (VLDL). This test requires nine to twelve hours of fasting and determines a patient’s risk of coronary heart disease. Healthy adults over the age of 21 should get a lipid panel every five years. This test may be ordered as part of an annual physical.

Renal Panel

Doctors will order a renal panel when they want to specifically look at how a patient’s kidneys are functioning. Abnormal results of this panel indicate one of several kidney disorders. The most common disorders detected by this test are chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, and acute renal failure.

Hepatic Panel

This panel consists of tests used to measure the function of your liver. A doctor will order a liver panel to detect the presence of liver disease or to distinguish between various forms of liver disorder. This test also provides the doctor with an idea of how well your liver functions. A hepatic panel is also used to follow response to treatment.
