Blake Koch will make his first start at Daytona on Friday night in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250. With his best career finish of 14th last weekend at Road America, he is ready to take the lead in the battle for Rookie of the Year.

June 29, 2011 - PRLog -- DAYTONA BEACH,FL – When it comes to the sport of NASCAR, one track in particular is by far the most recognized by fans and drivers alike, the Daytona International Speedway. This 2.5 mile super speedway, with turns banked at 31 degrees, was constructed in 1958 as the brainchild of NASCAR founder William France Sr. Today, it is one of the most impressive facilities in motorsports. Born less than one mile from the speedway, racing on the high banks of Daytona has always been a dream for Blake Koch. Now that dream becomes reality for the rising NASCAR driver.

Koch will make his first ever start at Daytona on Friday night in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250. The 25-year-old native of West Palm Beach Florida, who is in the process of relocating to North Carolina to foster his racing career, is ready to give it his all behind the Daystar Television Network #81 Dodge at the track that has made drivers into legends and given race fans the experience of a lifetime as they witness a spectacular combination of speed and talent on the track better known as “The World Center of Speed.”

“I’m really excited about Daytona,” said Koch. “We ran strong at the last restrictor plate race, so there’s no reason to think we won’t be good at Daytona. This will be the first time I will be driving my new camper to the race too, so I’m excited to spend some time with the family while I am at the track.”

The last time Koch competed in a restrictor plate race with his MacDonald Motorsports team was at Talladega Superspeedway in April. It was during that event that Koch proved the highest of speeds do not intimidate him whatsoever. The former motocross star that is in his first full season of the NASCAR Nationwide Series drove to an impressive 16th place finish, logging his best career finish at the time.

As he enters Daytona, Koch and the Daystar #81 team hope to carry the momentum of their best career finish. Last week in Lake Elkhart, Wisconsin, Koch drove to 14th place in the Bucyrus 200 on the road course at Road America.  The best finish of his career illustrates the progress Koch has made throughout the season so far, improving each and every week and closing in on the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Rookie of the Year title.

Last week’s event marked Koch’s fourth top 20 finish of the season. He continues to keep his rival Rookie of the Year contender Timmy Hill within his sight. Hill finished 11th as the two continue their heated battle for the Rookie title into the last half of the season. Following Saturday’s finish, Koch is now to 21st in the NASCAR Nationwide point standings.
