Broadview University Donates 375 Lbs. of Food to Meridian Food Bank

Campus Event Helps Organization Provide More Food Baskets for Families in Need

June 29, 2011 - PRLog -- (BOISE, ID)  Treasure Valley families struggling to put food on the table are getting a helping hand from Broadview University.  The new Boise campus delivered more than 375 pounds of food to the Meridian Food Bank on Monday, June 27.  The donation is the result of a recent Casino Night/Food Drive Benefit on campus.

The Meridian Food Bank (http://www.meridianfoodbank.org) relies on local food drives, donations and a grant from the city to operate.  A volunteer force of approximately 70 people feed some 4,000 people a month.  Last year, the food bank distributed 400,000 pounds of food.

“There are many great charities in Treasure Valley, but the food bank is one that helps hundreds of people on a daily basis,” Jeremy Goto, High School Admissions Representative for Broadview University, said.  Goto came up with the idea of having a food drive in conjunction with another student event.

“Since we were going to have a student party, I thought we could show how we care about the community at the same time,” Goto said.  “We work for a great organization that has a fantastic philosophy of ‘We Care.’  Not only do we care about our students, we care about our community as well.”

Broadview University (http://boise.broadviewuniversity.edu/) is an accredited career college.  The Boise campus, located at 2750 East Gala Court in Meridian, opened on January 18.  Students learn practical, real-world knowledge and skills as they prepare for high-demand careers in business, information technology, health science and legal science.  Broadview University is well represented in a number of community and volunteer efforts as its students and staff members support many personal and professional causes.

“We will help many more organizations as we continue to grow,” Goto said, “but the Meridian Food Bank was first since we are in a hard economic time right now.”

“The Meridian Food Bank would like to thank Broadview University for collecting 375 pounds of food for us.  We really appreciate the donation at this time,” Liz Warner, food bank director, said.  “This month, we are providing more food baskets for families in need than we ever have before.”
