Somebody's Basement launches iPhone-compatible mobile site

Web channel develops site that works around Apple device web restrictions

June 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Hollywood, Calif., Tuesday, June 28, 2011—Web distribution channel Somebody’s Basement today launched a mobile site compatible with Android, RIM, and—most notably—Apple’s iOS mobile devices.

“Apple’s iOS devices present a unique challenge in programming for mobile devices,” says Anthony Hansen, vice president of technology for Somebody’s Basement. “In developing a mobile site, we wanted to be sure that we could bring the video content Somebody’s Basement provides without losing any quality or breakdown in delivery due to lack of software compatibility.”

According to ComScore, 65.8 million people owned smartphones during the three months ending in January 2011, up 8 percent from the preceding three-month period.

"We began discussing mobile platform delivery for our vids before we launched last year," says Bonnie Gillespie, president of Somebody's Basement. "It was really important for us to take the time to develop a way for handheld gadget users to have the full experience of jamming with our content creators in the Basement."

While the desktop version was already functional on Android and RIM devices, the new Somebody’s Basement mobile site was designed with iOS devices in mind and makes the channel compatible with iPads and 3GS and above iPhones.

Somebody’s Basement is a web distribution channel founded in 2010 by writer/producer Bonnie Gillespie, writer/director Keith Johnson, and producer/manager Ryan Basham. Somebody’s Basement is a grassroots web network that features premiere content developed and collaborated upon by the best of the emerging independent web community.
