For if he is picked to join the British team that will fly out to Turkey for the international competition in October, his employer, Cheshire company Triangle Software will sponsor him for his bid for gold medal glory.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to show what I can achieve on the international stage,” said Jackson speaking from his desk at Triangle’s HQ at Lower Withington near Macclesfield where he works as an Application Developer.
“I was placed fourth for my performance in Taiji at last year’s European Championships in Turkey. Taiji is a branch of Wushu (Chinese Martial Arts) that encompasses all elements of the traditional martial art, but with the added athleticism of explosive jumping kicks and difficulty postures.
“At the end of the day, it was a result that I was pleased with as a late comer to the sport.”
Jackson started practising Wushu eight years ago, at the age of 31. He had previously enjoyed kick-boxing, but after becoming fascinated by Wushu, he progressed rapidly and soon began entering national competitions.
“I would describe Wushu as a very artistic performance sport”, added Jackson who was born and raised in Stockport and Macclesfield. “It is basically shadow boxing, but on a grander scale”.
He is now working hard for the July trials and is determined to win his place at the World Championships not just for himself but also for his native North of England.
“There will be top class athletes competing from all over the UK,” he said.
“Now thanks to the very generous sponsorship support from Triangle Software, I hope to be officially representing the North when the World Championship opens in Turkey in the autumn.”
Jackson’s boss, Triangle Software MD Tim Thomas-Peter said: “Jackson is a talented athlete as well as a superb software developer. We have agreed to sponsor him for this international event and his team strip will carry the Triangle Software logo.
“Triangle is a bespoke software design company with more than 20 years experience in state-of-the-
“It is entirely appropriate that we support a member of the Triangle team who is talented enough to go for gold on the world stage.”
