Solar Power Plant UAE Abu Dhabi

Solar powered Reverse Osmosis Plants in the deserts of Abu Dhabi

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun. 26, 2011 - Project : Solar powered RO  water purification units installed in the desert region of Abu Dhabi ( sweihan & Ruwais regions)
Total number of sites: 14
Promoter: Environmental Agency, Abu Dhabi ( a government of Abu Dhabi body)
Main contractor: HITACHI .
Sub-contractor: Altech’s scope: Solar power plants to power the RO purifiers of Hitachi at all 14 locations.
GREEN ENERY PRODUCED PER DAY:
Total green energy produced per day: 2.94 MWHrs.
Equivalent carbon displacement per day: 1.8 tonnes

Promoted by the Environmental Agency, Abu Dhabi ( a government of Abu Dhabi body), 14 solar powered water purifier are to be installed in the desert area of Sweihan, Abu  Dhabi.
Bore wells are dug at these sites and the brakish water is purified to potable quality and is stored in artificially created ponds. This is for the benefit of wild animals living in the desert, especially deer.
Each site will generate about 12000 liters of potable water per day. The system works only in the day time and is powered by a solar plant of 35kW ( per site) .

“In an effort to provide safe drinking water to the animals, thirty small-scale solar-powered desalination plants will go operational in Abu Dhabi. Each plant will be of the same size with identical desalination capacity of two cubic meters of water per hour. The plants that will be operated remotely will offer animals with watering holes in Abu Dhabi’s desert environment.
The main objective behind the plants is to set up a water source for the thousands of animals in the middle of the desert where there is no power. Powering the plants will be the solar energy harnessed by solar panels spanning 250 square meters at each site. It would result in producing 35 kilowatts of electricity per hour. These plants will function for nearly six to eight hours daily to desalt the salt water. The brine or wastewater will be pumped to an artificial lake and sealed underground to avoid any leaks into to the ground water.
