The book starts out with a simple yet basic lesson on how to float, one that is invaluable to youngsters learning to swim. It takes them through the process with cute illustrations and explanations so that the experience is a fun one, learned in the company of their parent(s).
After learning to float, they take on the fundamental swim strokes, kicking their legs and paddling their arms. Making water and learning to swim a fun endeavor for children, this Mr. Water book introduces them not only to a future recreation and sport, but even more importantly, the means to survive should they unexpectedly end up in the water alone.
From the book:
Learning to enjoy water without any trauma, any fear, is so easy, when one understands the methodology. Knowledge is power, but the method used to apply it is extremely important, particularly in introducing your child to water. ..The goal may be serious, but the journey needs to be fun.
“Let’s Swim with Mr. Water” is a fun, non-intimidating introduction to swimming for both parent and child. “Mr. Water” guides both parent and child through the very basics of floating, blowing bubbles, and beginning swim strokes. Throughout the book, illustrations are intentionally printed without color to allow the child to color in his or her “self” — to allow the child to actively participate in the reading and learning process, and to create a personal experience for the child.
“I am thrilled with the release of my first book,” stated author and swimming instructor Connie Foss. “I love to teach swimming and do so to many children every summer. I have always felt the need to create something for those children who would otherwise never engage a professional instructor. With my Mr. Water books, they can learn with their mom or dad and have fun doing it!”
Let’s Swim with Mr. Water is the beginning of a series which teaches the very basics needed for kids to learn to swim. “We will be announcing something special in connection with the next book in the very near future in which the kids can participate,”

Every single thing we can do to help children when it comes to water safety should be done. Some shocking statistics to consider:
- For children 1-4 years old who died, 26% died from drowning (CDC 2006). Fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1 to 14 years (CDC 2005) U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- Participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1 to 4 years.(Association between swimming lessons and drowning in childhood: A case-control study. Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine 2009;163(3):203-
