June 25, 2011 - PRLog -- MT. JULIET, TN  –John Folsom, retired United States Marine Corps Colonel, has begun a 30-day tour across the county to raise awareness and funds for Wounded Warriors Family Support. This organization provides support to families of men and women who have been injured or killed during combat operations.

Setting out on the open road, in a 2011 Shelby Mustang GT-500, Colonel Folsom plans to visit all 50 state capitols as part of his 2nd Annual High Five Tour. As the tour makes its way across the country and to Two Rivers Ford at 9am on June 24, Two Rivers Ford will be making a financial contribution to the organization’s fundraising efforts.

“It is our privilege to host Colonel Folsom during his High Five Tour,” said John Barker, Owner of Two Rivers Ford. “This is the perfect opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for all of the men and women who serve our country.”

Two Rivers Ford will donate $1 to the Wounded Warrior Project for each lap that the number 76 “Support Our Troops” themed Ford Mustang completes in the Chump Car 24 hour Endurance Race next weekend at the Nashville Superspeedway.

“I am grateful for Ford’s support of the tour and for Two Rivers Ford’s donation,” said Colonel John Folsom.  “Soldiers and their families need our help to cope with the physical, psychological and spiritual stress that war causes.  With generous donations like this we can continue our mission.”

Building on Ford’s history of saluting those who serve

Ford Motor Company has a long-standing commitment to the men and women who serve in the American military. Dating back to 1922, the company's ongoing relationship with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) began when Henry Ford organized a cross-country caravan of 50 Model T vehicles to take disabled veterans to their convention in San Francisco.

Since 1974, Ford Motor Company and the Ford Motor Company Fund have provided more than $6 million to veterans’ organizations.

“These men and women are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice,” Brownell said. “It is rewarding for Ford to give something back to those who have given so much for our country.”

This year, Ford received the prestigious Freedom Award from the U.S. Secretary of Defense for its support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve.
