Farra rewards the Best Furniture Designers

One June 3rd 2011 Farra Design Center hosted the 2nd edition of the Divine Details Inter-University Furniture Contest. 21 contestants from different universities of Lebanon were asked to design and execute a full scale piece of furniture.

June 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Through its Divine Details philanthropic program aiming at helping the Lebanese community, Farra Design Center (FDC) hosted its second edition of the Inter-University Furniture Contest with the participation of the Lebanese Syndicate of Interior Designers. This competition targets young designers, architecture students and recent graduates and gives them the opportunity to enhance their design portfolios, have hands-on experience to complement their academic learning and improve their employment opportunities in Lebanon. 21 contestants from different universities of Lebanon were asked to design and execute a full scale piece of furniture. Participating universities were: ALBA, AUST, BAU, LAU, LIU, NDU & USEK
On Friday June 3rd 2011, starting 7pm, contestants surrounded by their family and friends, along with prominent members of the Lebanese community and all university faculty members, gathered at Farra Design Center to find out who will be the 4 winners who will share the total of $5,000. The jury, who had gathered a day before to grade each project, was composed of:
•   Representatives from most of the participating universities:
o   Mr. Adolphe Youssevith, Assistant Director of the Interior Architecture and Product Design Department at ALBA
o   Mr. Halim Choueiry, Chairperson of the Arts and Design Department at the American University of Science and Technology (AUST)
o   Miss Marina Khalil, representing Mr. Nadim Matta, Chairperson of the Design Department at the Notre Dame University (NDU)
o   Mrs. Nada Khoury, representing Dr. Maroun Daccache, Chairperson of the Architecture and Interior Design Department at the Lebanese American University (LAU)
o   Mr. Pierre Hage-Boutros, representing Mr. Charles Btaich, Head of Interior Architecture Department at University Saint Esprit de Kaslik (USEK)
•   Mrs. Sandra Tabbal Saad, Project Manager and head of Interior Design Department at Farra Design Center
•   Mr. Michel Bernotti, president of the Lebanese Syndicate of Interior Designers
The winners were:
•   1st prize of $2,000 was awarded to Ramzi Naja from LAU
•   2nd prize of $1,500 was awarded to Mirna Sabbah from LAU
•   3rd prize of $1,000 was awarded to Nour Abi Saad from NDU
•   4th prize of $500 was awarded to Daisy Basbous from NDU
•   Winner of the Public Award was Stephanie Machmouchi from ALBA
