June 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Two of the staff at the Maynard hotel and restaurant in the Peak District went biking mad to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Cycling 54miles to raise money for this incredible charity, can mean the BHF can successfully research methods in the hope to mend broken hearts across the UK. The London to Brighton bike ride was held on 19 June, starting at Clapham Common and ending at the glorious Brighton Beach.  Head Chef, Ben Hickinson and Wedding and Events Coordinator, Kate Lloyd, are the two brave members of staff which took part in the event along with 28,000 others!

The couple hope to raise around £250 which can help provide the British Heart Foundation with much needed money for ground breaking research. The London – Brighton 54 mile bike ride was held in the bid to raise money to fund research into diseases of the heart and circulation problems. These conditions are becoming more apparent throughout the UK and are now unfortunately one the UK’s biggest killers. Ground breaking research is happening every day thanks to the money being donated to the British Heart Foundation. The charity also offers support to families who have a member suffering from a broken heart.

The Maynard Hotel and Restaurant is one of the best independent hotels in the Peak District, with the breath taking building being over 100 years old. Whilst being set in the spectacular area of Grindleford, residents may feel a million miles away from civilisation, but are in fact only a short drive away from many amazing locations. Always looking to offer a helping hand where they can, members of staff at The Maynard look to participate in charity events wherever possible.

Kate was determined to reaching her goal of finishing the bike ride, and remained positive throughout, despite developing numerous bruises and scratches along the way!

“By taking part in this wonderful event, we both feel as though we have contributed towards real research which takes place at the British Heart Foundation. The money helps fund the charity with caring for sufferers as well as their families, and they are only able to carry on this research and support with funds raised by the public.

“Cycling the 54 miles not only keeps mine and Ben’s hearts healthy, but can help find cures to make the hearts of so many people throughout the UK stronger.”
