“With an estimated 1.7 million children and adults in the U.S. sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and another 795,000 individuals sustaining an acquired brain injury (ABI) from non-traumatic causes each year, BIAC is providing services to more individuals than ever before,” said Julie Peters, BIAC’s Executive Director. In the U.S., the most common causes of brain injury are motor vehicle, bicycle, or vehicle-pedestrian mishaps, falls and violence. “This means everyone is at risk.”
Proceeds from the Guida’s Milk/ BIAC Golf Tournament will help BIAC ensure that brain injury survivors, their families, and those who care for them have access to the resources required for optimal recovery and full community inclusion. In addition, BIAC works to reduce both the number and the severity of brain injuries by increasing public awareness and understanding through outreach and educational opportunities.

This organization is extremely meaningful to the Guida Family as both Alexander and Michael Guida are brain injury survivors and are living proof that with the right care and knowledge it is possible to overcome the challenges experienced due to brain injury. Michael Guida stated, “Traumatic brain injury stays under the radar and people don’t realize how many people are affected by these injuries. A good portion of brain injuries involve young people, which is part of our future. I am extremely excited about the record-breaking turnout and level of support we had at this year’s event, but we always need more.”
