The Source of the Warrior Within

June 23, 2011 - PRLog -- The term ‘warrior’ gets thrown around quite a bit in different circles and for good reason. The word itself instills a sense of courage and commitment to a particular task. When we envision ourselves as warriors, it causes something inside of us to rise up wanting to take dominion. CEO’s speak about it in the board room, coaches passionately yell about it in the locker room, preachers preach it to their congregations and sergeants scream it to their recruits. So why is taking on a warrior persona such an effective principle for motivation? It’s because we were created in the image of the greatest warrior of all.

In Genesis 1:26 it states that God created us in His image. Read a little farther and in Genesis 1:28 we find that God gave us permission to subdue the entire earth. Mankind was created to reign. Jesus was fully God and fully man. He felt pain just as any of us would. It’s important to understand that at any moment Jesus could have struck any of His oppressors dead. He could have summoned a legion of angels on His behalf and put a halt to His suffering but He understood that He was serving a cause greater than Himself. In order for us to live, He would have to die.

Many people would not dispute that the selfless act of giving one’s life for another is courageous but I believe Jesus’ death on the cross brings to bear one more element of the warrior spirit that often gets overlooked which is compassion. Because of His compassion for us, He was willing to sacrifice His life.

When left unchecked, courage without compassion can lead to oppression. A true warrior understands that his bravery must be seasoned with a healthy dose of care and concern. Whether you’re a single mom or a samurai, nurse or ninja, salesman or soldier, you have a warrior within you. The next time you look in the mirror, see yourself as the warrior you are.
