Dade Moeller Gears Up for Annual Meeting of the Health Physics Society

Company’s Radiation Protection Experts Will Educate, Mentor, Exhibit, and Accept Awards

June 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Nationally recognized radiation protection firm Dade Moeller is preparing for its participation at the 56th Annual Meeting of the Health Physics Society, which will be held at the Palm Beach Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., from June 26-30, 2011. A long-time affiliate member of the Health Physics Society, Dade Moeller employs more Certified Health Physicists than any other company in the United States, and the current President of the Health Physics Society, Ed Maher, is a Dade Moeller employee.

Dade Moeller, http://www.moellerinc.com,  will be visible and active at the conference, with a prominent space in the Exhibit Hall and 20 employees attending the event, including 7 who have been selected to present technical sessions. Maher will host the meeting as President of the Society and will be recognized for his past year of service. Employee Dan Mantooth will be awarded as a new Fellow of the Society and will become the 18th Dade Moeller employee to have earned this honor. Two other employees, Tracy Ikenberry and Bill Kennedy, have been specially selected to mentor two visiting students from Russia during the meeting, and company CEO, Matt Moeller, will begin his second term of service as a member of the Society’s Rules Committee.

EXHIBIT

Dade Moeller will be meeting with its long-time colleagues as well as discussing its corporate capabilities with potential clients, partners, and employees in the exhibit hall at space #110. This year, Dade Moeller is leveraging its prominent exhibit hall presence to highlight its growing commercial business practice, which includes, among others, medical physics, radioactive waste brokerage, occupational health, and industrial hygiene.

AWARDS

On Tuesday, June 28, employee Dan Mantooth will be honored as a member of the 2011 Fellow class of the Health Physics Society and joins a long list of 18 Dade Moeller employees who are Fellows. Health Physics Society Fellows are nominated by their peers, endorsed by local Chapters of the organization, and approved by the Board. Mantooth will be recognized at the Awards Banquet in the Grand Ballroom of the Palm Beach Convention Center at 7:00 p.m..

MENTORS

Throughout the Annual Meeting, Tracy Ikenberry and Bill Kennedy, both Fellows of the Society, will be serving as mentors for two visiting Russian students as part of a joint effort with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Russian Health Studies Program. They will assist them with attending meetings, participating in social events, and networking with Society members. Both students will be presenting papers in the External Dosimetry technical session on Tuesday, June 28.

Ikenberry will be the mentor for Mr. Yury Timofeev, a postgraduate student in the Mechanical-Mathematical Department at the South Ural State University in Chelyabinsk who also is working with the Ural Research Center for Radiation Medicine. Timofeev will be speaking on “Improvement of Algorithm for Evaluation of Uncertainties for Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Dosimetry on Tooth Enamel” at 11:00 a.m.. He is interested in mathematics, statistical modeling, and computer sciences and has two advanced degrees, one in mathematics and the other in computer programming.

Kennedy will mentor Ms. Yuliana Semenova, a researcher and graduate student at the
Laboratory of Radiation Hygiene, Burnasyan Federal Medical Biophysical Center, in Moscow.

Semenova will be presenting “Federal Databank of Individual Dose Estimates of the Public and the Workers within the Jurisdiction of the Federal Medical Biological Agency of Russia” at 11:30 a.m.. Her main fields of study are dosimetry, statistical data manipulation, and risk assessment.

LEADERSHIP

At the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, Ed Maher will transition from his role as President of the Health Physics Society to that of Past President. As Past President, Maher will be responsible for chairing the Awards Committee and the Scientific and Public Issues Committee.

Also at the conclusion of the meeting, Company CEO Matt Moeller will begin a new term as an appointed member of the Health Physics Society’s Rules Committee. This committee, which consists of three voting members, is responsible for interpreting the Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and Rules of the Society. This will be Moeller’s second year of a three-year appointment to the Committee.
