John McDaniel Appointed to Executive Advisory Board of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States

June 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc., the area’s largest nonprofit health plan, announced the appointment of John P. McDaniel, chairman of Hickory Ridge Group, a private health care consulting and development organization, to its Executive Advisory Board.

“John’s breadth of experience in the health care industry will be invaluable to the Executive Advisory Board as we continue to enhance our unique integrated care delivery system in the region,” said Marilyn Kawamura, president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc.  “We are proud and excited to have John on our Executive Advisory Board, and look forward to his contributions.”

McDaniel has held multiple executive positions throughout his extensive career including serving as the chief executive officer of MedStar Health; president and chief executive officer of Washington Hospital Center Corporation; president of Maryland Health Care System, Inc.; and president of Lutheran Hospital of Maryland, Inc.  McDaniel earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Wittenberg University, an M.H.A. degree from the University of Michigan, and an honorary doctorate degree from Wittenberg University.

The Executive Advisory Board was established to facilitate input from regional leaders to ensure that the Health Plan is fulfilling its vision, mission, and service credo in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Its membership includes a diverse group of business and community leaders that has extensive knowledge of the health care needs in the community that are unique to the Mid-Atlantic region.

Members of the Health Plan Executive Advisory Board are appointed by the Board of Directors of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc.  Currently, the Executive Advisory Board consists of five members:
•Thomas W. Chapman, MPH, EdD, president and chief executive of the Health Services for Children Foundation
•J. Eugene Grigsby, III, PhD, president and chief executive officer of the National Health Foundation
•John P. McDaniel, chairman of the Hickory Ridge Group and former chief executive officer of MedStar Health
•Robert G. Templin, Jr., president of Northern Virginia Community College
•Carol Thompson-Cole, president and chief executive officer of Venture Philanthropy Partners
